The patient presented with a sudden hearing loss in the right ear. He reports a long history of tinnitus but more recently noted a very severe decrease in hearing in the right ear. He does not report any vertigo or balance problems. We discussed the tumor and the options for management.
Tumor with expanded internal auditory canal and incredible visualization via the translabyrinthine approach removing bone from around the tumor. Full resection and normal facial function postoperatively.
After the tumor removal surgery, we have patients go through a list of factual function tests. This is immediately done after surgery when the patient is awake to demonstrate a positive outcome as seen with this patient, everything goes well.
